11.1 Newsletter

Hello Friends,

This was a very big week for the No CMP Corridor grassroots army. Two days ago was the official launch of our new referendum effort to stop CMP’s destructive corridor project, and with Election Day just two days away, we’ve sure hit the ground running. We will have signature gatherers collecting signatures at more than 120 polling locations around the state, and our volunteers have already clocked many hours to make this quick turnaround time a reality.

Activists of the Week

So this week, please join me in giving a shout out to each and every Mainer who took time out of their busy Halloween weekend to help us assemble petition packets and deliver them in time to pull off this Election Day effort. I can assure you, it was no small feat.

As you can see, our volunteers are more energized than ever, and they’re ready to go toe-to-toe with these two foreign corporations, CMP and Hydro-Quebec, once more. The people of Maine will not sit idly by while these foreign corporations exploit our natural resources and rural economies for profit.

This transmission line would cut through the heart of our beautiful state, and it would forever change the character of the undeveloped northern Maine woods. Voters deserve to have a voice on this project, considering it’s the largest infrastructure proposed since the Maine Turnpike.

As our good friend Tom Saviello said as he picked up the petitions on Friday, we’ve known from the very beginning that this for-profit project is a bad deal for Maine and its people. That’s why it will take more than lawsuits, sketchy tactics and an army of lobbyists and lawyers to silence us.

So please join us in once again defeating the odds in qualifying this issue for the ballot. We need 63,067 signatures to make this a reality, but I know that with all of you in our corner, we will achieve our goals.

Featured Op-ed

Thanks to Kate Weatherby of New Sharon for submitting this fantastic op-ed, “The Fight Against the CMP Corridor is Not Over” to the Morning Sentinel this week! As Kate lays out in her piece, CMP has fought tooth and nail to ram this unpopular, for-profit project down our throats, yet despite spending an exorbitant amount of money on their propaganda campaign, Mainers still aren’t buying it.

Featured Letter

Also this week, my fantastic mother and mentor, Carol, authored a letter, “Support Second Referendum on CMP Corridor” that appeared in the Daily Bulldog. In it she said, “I'm proud to join forces once again to collect signatures for a second referendum to give Mainers the voice they deserve.”

Please take a moment to read these two pieces, and share them on your social media!

If you’re unable to help out on Election Day, but you would still like to volunteer to help us reach our goal, please fill out this form! We will need volunteers for all aspects of the campaign (signature gathering, office work, driving petitions to town offices), so please indicate which tasks you’d be comfortable performing. We will provide the necessary PPE to all volunteers so everybody can stay safe out there.

As a final reminder, even if you’ve already voted, please reference this list to find a polling location where we will be collecting near you, and look for us outside the poll with our No CMP Corridor signs and masks! If you’re unable to get to the polls to sign, shoot us an email at [email protected] and we will find a volunteer in your area.

That’s all for this week, friends.
