Hello Friend,

This week, J.D. Power and Associates announced that Central Maine Power is once again ranked dead last for customer satisfaction among the 88 power utility companies in the United States. This means that, for the third consecutive year, they ranked even worse than the California utility that went bankrupt after causing deadly wildfires.

Yet David Flanagan, CMP’s executive chairman, claims the company has made “significant advances” this year, even after WGME did an expose earlier this week showing that their three-year-old billing system remains defective with dozens of customers impacted this year alone. 

This news comes just two months after Flanagan told reporters that under his leadership, CMP is “on the comeback trail”, and “knocking [their goals] out of the park”, touting increased billing accuracy. 

As with CMP’s rhetoric around their unpopular and destructive NECEC corridor, their words and reality don’t match up, and clearly Mainers are sick of being lied to by this foreign company.

CMP clearly can’t handle the responsibilities it already has, yet they want us to trust them to take on the largest infrastructure project our state has seen since the Maine Turnpike was built so they can send their foreign shareholders $2.9 billion in profits.

This company has a track record of providing terrible customer service, having been dealt a record $10 million fine earlier this year, and their reliability is at what seems to be an all time low with Mainers left in the dark every time the wind blows. It’s hard to imagine that taking on a massive new line and an entirely new customer base of Massachusetts ratepayers will improve their tarnished reputation here in Maine.


So this week, I’m asking for your help in finding venues, events and locations for our volunteers to collect signatures. Even if you can’t collect signatures yourself, this is an important way you can help us succeed in stopping CMP from continuing to steamroll their customers and ignore the best interests of Mainers. If you have a tip on where we should be collecting in your community, please email [email protected].

If you have friends and family who are interested in signing our petition, please consider becoming a friends and family signature collector! Even if you can only bring in 10 signatures, that’s 10 more towards our goal!

Also, if you haven't yet signed our petition, please find a location near you this week to connect with a volunteer! If you don’t see a public event in your area, email us and we will help connect you with a signature gatherer in your area.

Activists of the Week


This week, we would like to recognize our volunteers who collected at Bath Iron Works recently, beginning before the sun came up. Their efforts, which made the morning news, resulted in more than 125 signatures over a few short hours, putting us that much closer towards our goal of 100,000 signatures by January 9.
