Friend --

First of all, I would like to thank each and every one of you who submitted a comment to the Department of Environmental Protection to voice your concerns about the destructive CMP Corridor project. The Department received nearly 2,300 comments, and of the comments, only 11 were in favor. That is an outstanding turnout from our grassroots base, and really demonstrates how deeply unpopular this project is.

I would also like to thank all of you who took the time to draft a short letter to the editor this week. These letters are incredibly important, so please, keep up the good work!

In case you missed it, here’s a letter from John Nicholas of Winthrop. John did a tremendous job of laying out some of CMP’s recent half-truths (lies).

For instance, of the $300 million in contracts for “Maine” companies recently announced, only ONE of the companies, Cianbro, is actually based here in Maine. The rest are companies that simply set up an office space here in anticipation of this project. Those companies include Irby Construction of Mississippi, Northern Clearing of Wisconsin and Sargent Electric of Pennsylvania.

Why did they set up offices here? So CMP could overstate the “benefit” this project will bring to Maine in the form of short-term construction jobs. Once this project is over, those empty offices and the workers they bring in from all around the country will leave, and we will be left with a scar through our previously undeveloped western Maine woods.

We must fight back. See below our Action Items for the week!

Finally, a volunteer recently gave me a tremendous idea. Each time you pay your CMP bill, send the PAC a donation as well! If you’re able to contribute, we will spend your dollars much more wisely than CMP’s foreign stakeholders, I guarantee it.

I am truly proud to be the leader of such a diverse and passionate group. Thank you all.

Sandi Howard
